It has been 5,478 days since Spain reached eternal glory at Soccer City in Johannesburg. “I heard the silence, I knew the ball was going in,” said Andrés Iniesta, scorer of the winning goal against the Netherlands.

Now, fifteen years later, the RFEF will commemorate that 11 July with a series of initiatives joined by the wider Spanish society, just as they came together in those days after the win to celebrate the national team’s victory after becoming world champions for the first time in Spanish history.

Therefore, throughout the day, the home of Spanish football is set to share various very special messages, in which major figures will recall how they remember the feat and what emotions they feel when reliving that unique moment.

In addition, the city of Madrid, which hosted the celebration of the World Champions through its streets on a historic day for the Spanish capital, will relive the feat 15 years later thanks to the collaboration between the RFEF and the Madrid City Council. Across the city, digital screens (information stands in public spaces) set up along the streets will display images for all of us to remember.

All of this is part of the Real Federación Española de Fútbol’s commitment, together with its president Rafael Louzán and its Board of Directors, to laying the foundations for a new era in which Spanish football moves forward hand in hand with society, promoting the values of solidarity, teamwork, respect and coexistence that defined that World Cup-winning team and that continue to inspire future generations.
