Rubiales: "Sergio is one of the most important assets of Spanish football"

The president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation recognizes the brilliant career of an unmatched footballer

Since 2009, Sergio Busquets has been a fundamental piece in the National Team. He dressed in red for the first time at the age of 20 and now, at 34, he says goodbye with all the honors and with an immaculate service record. His track record is enviable, champion of the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012, but almost more important is the legacy he leaves, a leader also in the dressing room who proudly wore and honored the captain's armband of the national team.

Luis Rubiales, in the captain's farewell, wanted to recognize an immaculate career, impossible to forget the relevance of Busquets for all that he has been: "Sergio Busquets is an iconic figure in Spanish football, an exemplary athlete, an impeccable professional and a undisputed leader."

The president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation has also always maintained a very close relationship with Sergio Busquets, reciprocating the footballer's respect: "I've known Sergio and his family since he was 11 years old when I shared a dressing room with his father at Lleida. I am united by a great friendship with his parents and sometimes my heart can make my words less objective: I don't mean it that way, Sergio is a player who will transcend generations due to his immense legacy".

"Sergio is a silent, serene leader and admired by all for his humility and naturalness," Rubiales defines him. "Champion of everything, he has drawn an immense career that is already in the history of football. But there is a more important issue: his human profile. In that, Sergio is also unbeatable. Busquets deserves to decide when and how and our only path is gratitude. Thank you, Sergio, for your dedication and loyalty to the team, you are one of the most important assets of Spanish football”.
