Rüdiger sends the Bernabéu wild with his extra time winner
The Berlin-born centre-back’s goal from a corner secured Real Madrid’s place in the Copa del Rey Mapfre final on 26th April.
The love Real Madrid fans have for Antonio Rüdiger is more than justified. The German defender has a knack for scoring decisive goals, and tonight was no exception.
Just when the first Copa del Rey semi-final between Real Madrid and Real Sociedad seemed destined to be decided by penalties, “El Loco,” (the crazy one) as he is affectionately known among Madrid fans, stepped up. Arda Güler floated a high ball into the box, and Rüdiger rose to head it past Remiro and into the net.
The German’s goal secured Los Blancos’ place in yet another final, completing an epic comeback just when a penalty shootout seemed inevitable.
As the final whistle blew, all of his teammates rushed to embrace the hero of the night, Antonio Rüdiger, while the crowd erupted in thunderous applause. The defender responded in kind, acknowledging the fans’ passionate support.
Antonio Rüdiger and Real Madrid will now contest the Copa del Rey MAPFRE final, which will take place at the Estadio La Cartuja in Seville on 26th April.
