Sadness and pride

RCD Mallorca receive their fans’ consolation after losing the final on penalties

Unlike in the second leg of the semi-final against Real Sociedad, this time Mallorca came up short in the lottery that is a penalty shoot-out.

Javier Aguirre's side came within a whisker of victory in the Copa del Rey final after a thrilling, breakneck encounter against Athletic Club.

As such, the team can take pride in a job well done despite their feelings being mixed with the sadness and tears visible on the faces of Manu Morlanes, Antonio Raíllo, striker Dani Rodríguez and the Balearic born Abdón Prats, to whom his own coach apologised for not being able to give him minutes in the decisive match.

RCD Mallorca can take the honour of having completed a great run this season in the Copa del Rey, from which they emerged undefeated in open play, runners-up in the competition and with all the affection of all football fans in a tournament to remember.
