Santi Denia's Third Olympic Games
The Olympic team is fighting to achieve their dream of winning the coveted gold medal in Paris—a feat within the reach of very few, which the national team is striving for under the guidance of Santi Denia. The coach is at his third Olympic Games in France, his first as the head of the team, after having participated in Atlanta 1996 as a player and in Tokyo 2020 as an assistant to Luis de la Fuente.
It's been an Olympic journey for Denia, and although he's focused on the task ahead, he admits that these past experiences are helping him lead this talented group of players: "We’re living in the present, but it’s true that I have very fond memories of those experiences. They’ve helped us bring a positive spirit here to Paris and create a strong team bond."
In the Men's Football Tournament, the level of competition is extremely high. Every team has given it their all from the very first match to win the gold medal, but only one can succeed. "Being at the Olympic Games is like playing in a FIFA U-23 World Cup. It's a privilege to be here," says Santi Denia.
Reaching the Olympic final is the culmination of work that began long ago, and Santi Denia is clear on what has been key to their success: "For the coach, it's important that over the more than forty days we've been together, we all contribute to the collective effort, pull in the same direction, and truly become a family where everyone feels a part of it."
