Spain and Portugal agree with Morocco to submit a joint bid for the 2030 FIFA World Cup

The bid thus becomes historic as it integrates countries from two continents united by football.

Luis Rubiales and Fernando Gomes, presidents respectively of the RFEF and the FPF , have reached an agreement with Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), to form a transversal bid that is as powerful as possible, not only on a sporting level, but also in terms of infrastructure and in social and cultural terms.

Luis Rubiales and Fernando Gomes announced this decision to the representatives of the European federations at the UEFA meeting organized on the occasion of the 73rd FIFA Congress, which will take place tomorrow in Kigali.

The initiative has been received very positively and with massive support.

This is a historic bid, as for the first time a men's World Cup would be held jointly on two different continents. The union of the three neighboring countries will contribute to strengthening the ties between Europe and Africa, as well as the entire Mediterranean. It will also inspire thousands of young people from both continents in a common project that is focused on the impact that football can have on the development of the region both in terms of sport and also socially.

Representatives of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation will soon join the 2030 World Cup Coordination Committee, led by Antonio Laranjo. The bid will meet the deadlines set out in FIFA's terms of reference.

The Spanish and Portuguese Federations are confident that the Ukrainian Federation and its president will overcome the difficulties they are currently going through in order to present a joint candidacy of the four countries.

The RFEF and the FPF would like to thank the governments of Spain and Portugal for the support they have given to this project at the Spanish-Portuguese summit.
