Spain and South Korea meet for the second time in their history
During the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup held in Canada, Spain was placed in Group E alongside Brazil, Costa Rica, and South Korea.
The team entered their final group stage match on just one point, having drawn with Costa Rica and lost to Brazil. They were fighting for a chance to finish second in the group. Ultimately, however, South Korea came from behind after Spain’s opening goal to secure a 2-1 victory, eliminating Spain from the tournament.
This is the only previous encounter at senior level between the two sides, and South Korea will not be an easy opponent. Ranked ninth in the FIFA standings, they are coming off the back of three consecutive friendly defeats, including heavy losses to Japan (4-0) and the USA in two matches (3-0 and 4-0).
