Spain-Scotland, Hispanic Day at La Cartuja Stadium

The Venue Selection Committee of the RFEF today has approved the match, as well as the under-21 match that will be played in Jaén on September 11; two events that are part of the collaboration agreement between the RFEF and the Junta de Andalucía

The Spain-Scotland match scheduled for October 12, valid for the group stage of the Euro 2024 qualification, will take place at La Cartuja Stadium in Seville. This proposal was ratified by the Venue Selection Committee of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) this Friday, and is part of the agreement signed in February 2021 with the Junta de Andalucía to bring a total of 24 matches to the community over four years.

In the same Committee session, the venue where the under-21 national team will play against Scotland on September 11 for their Euro 2025 qualification group stage match was approved. It will be at La Victoria Stadium in Jaén, and is also part of the agreement between the Junta and RFEF; although, in this case, the Jaén City Council will collaborate in organizing the match.

La Cartuja Stadium in Seville, on Hispanic Day

The Venue Selection Committee of the RFEF has thus approved La Cartuja Stadium in Seville to host the Spain-Scotland match on Hispanic Day. A match that will be an opportunity for the national team to seek revenge after the 2-0 defeat in Glasgow in the first leg, in this Group A qualification for the Eurocup.

La Cartuja Stadium is well known to the national team, which on November 17, 2020, secured a resounding 6-0 victory in the UEFA Nations League there, a victory that they ultimately won last Sunday; and in November 2021, when the 1-0 win against Sweden secured qualification, as group leaders, for the Qatar World Cup. Furthermore, it was the venue for three of their matches in the 2021 Eurocup, where they qualified for the round of 16 with a 5-0 victory against Slovakia.

La Cartuja also hosted a match of the Women's National Team against the Czech Republic, corresponding to the qualification phase for the 2022 Eurocup.

This match is made possible by the agreement with the Junta and will also have the collaboration of the Jaén City Council.

This will be the under-21 national team's return to the capital of Jaén almost 22 years later. It was on November 10, 2001, when Spain defeated Portugal 2-1. That national team was composed of players such as Marchena, Xavi, or Reina, who later became world champions with the senior team.
