Spain set up camp in Donaueschingen
At nearly half past seven in the evening Spanish time, the Iberia flight A321 landed at Stuttgart airport after a flight of just over two hours from Mallorca.
On board, the entire Spanish squad was welcomed by the fire brigade with a large arch of water formed over the runway itself, where dozens of young local fans made a corridor for the players to pass through right at the foot of the plane's stairs.
Chants rang out in perfect Spanish from the fans draped in Spanish flags and national team shirts all around the players, mixed in were the occasional pretzels handed out by local volunteers. All it all it made for a warm welcome and a perfect chance to get some autographs signed by the internationals who loved Germany’s greetings.
The Spain squad then continued their journey by road to the small town of Donaueschingen, where they will be based for the duration of the European Championships.
This coming Monday evening, 10 June, Luis de la Fuente will hold his first training session in the German town as part of the squad’s preparations for the tournament opener, scheduled for Saturday 15 June at 6 p.m. at the Berlin Olympic Stadium.
