Spain to Discover Their Opponents in the Nations League
Spain claimed the title brilliantly in the last and first ever edition of the UEFA Nations League. The tournament concluding with a memorable final at La Cartuja against France this past February. Tomorrow, they will begin their title defence by discovering their group stage rivals for the 2025 edition. The draw will take place at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon, where Spain, currently ranked third in the world, are among the top-seeded teams alongside Germany, France, and Italy.
Montse Tomé’s team, who left a positive impression in their recent November friendlies against Canada (1-1) and Italy (1-1), could face some very strong nations in the upcoming UWNL. In pot 2 are Iceland, Denmark, England, and the Netherlands; in pot 3, Sweden, Norway, Austria, and Belgium; while pot 4 features Portugal, Scotland, Switzerland, and Wales.
The group stage will consist of six matchdays (two matches per window in the months of February, April, and May), and the champions of each group in League A will progress to the finals, with the draw set for June. In this season’s edition, there will be two-legged semi-finals (October), with the same format for the final (between 26 November and 2 December).
This is the next challenge to be face for Spain in what promises to be an exciting 2025, as the European Championships will also take place from 2 to 27 July in Switzerland. The national team, current World Cup winners and the Nations League champions, are preparing with renewed ambition to continue building on their success.
