Spain to play Nigeria at the Olympic Games

Nigeria beat South Africa in their qualifying round and will face Montse Tomé's team on July 28 in Nantes.

Twenty days ago we discovered the group in which Spain was drawn for the Olympic Games in Paris 2024. Montse Tomé's team will kick off on July 25 against Japan at 17:00 and will finish off the group stage against Brazil on July 31 at the same time. However, our second opponent was still to be determined by who would come out of Confederation of African Football qualification (CAF).

Today everything changed, South Africa and Nigeria squared off in their second leg for a place in Spain’s group at the Olympic Games. After a goalless draw, Nigeria benefited from the first leg match which they won by narrowest of margins (1-0). As a result, we now can be sure that Spain will play against Nigeria on July 28 at 19:00.

As such, the current world champions will play their first two matches against Japan and Nigeria in Nantes, while the duel against Brazil will take place in Bordeaux. It will not be until August 10 that the winning football team will be awarded the gold medal, a day that Spain will be looking to stand at the top of the podium on.
