The Royal Spanish Football Federation has made the work of caring for our planet one of its most important socially valuable commitments. Aware of the power of football to raise awareness and champion causes that improve society and the people who inhabit it, the RFEF is working to improve environmental sustainability and open a ‘green’ path that allows us to enjoy a healthier planet for everyone.

Examples of this are the policies and actions that Spanish football promotes in its working calendar, such as measuring the carbon footprint in the finals of the Copa del Rey and the Copa de la Reina and in collaboration with the organising clubs and cities, as well as offsetting the emissions generated through initiatives such as reforestation and planting trees in the Doñana National Park or the improvement of the seabed along the Spanish coasts.

In addition, work is being carried out on a daily basis to eliminate plastics both at the Ciudad del Fútbol headquarters and at all the events organised by the RFEF, where environmental awareness policies are developed, such as the promotion of public and non-polluting means of transport, recycling and zero waste policies, etc. All of this is part of the ‘green brand’ developed by the Department of Equality, Social Responsibility and Sustainability.

This Wednesday, 5 June, the United Nations celebrates World Environment Day under the slogan: ‘Our Earth, Our Future’, and Spanish football joins in with the celebrations with the feeling that our future is in everyone's hands and that there is only one way for people and the planet: working together for a more sustainable and responsible world, today and for future generations.
