Spanish National Football Team players receive Special Mention at the IX Fundación Diversidad Awards

Players recognised as influencers in the promotion of diversity and inclusion

The Spanish National Football Team, champions of the last Women's World Cup, has been given a distinguished Special Mention at the IX Fundación Diversidad Awards, recognising the players for their leadership as influential people in the promotion of diversity and inclusion. The panel considered the national team's diversity and inclusion policies, as well as those of the other award winners, considering aspects such as diversity strategies, inclusive selection practices, inclusive action campaigns and training in unconscious bias, among others.

The outcome of these awards, which were announced this Thursday, means that the Spanish National Football Team receives support from the Diversity Foundation, and shows that all the policies and measures regarding the players have been implemented in the search for equal opportunities and inclusion. Through them, they are taking advantage of the prominent platform that football has to promote the recognition that our society is plural and must guarantee that any person can live free of discrimination. On behalf of the RFEF, Marisa González, director of Equality, Social Responsibility and Sustainability of the federation, accepted the award.

The president of the Diversity Foundation, María Eugenia Girón, highlighted the importance of promoting diversity and equality in the business world, underlining the fundamental role of companies and institutions in this process. In addition, the European Commissioner for Equality, Helena Dalli, supported this message, urging companies to continue their work in favour of diversity and inclusion.

Along with the players of the Spanish national football team, the Spanish Development Finance Company (COFIDES), in the category of institution or public company; Aon, as an outstanding large company; Aimplas - Technological Institute of Plastics, in the category of SME; Amimet, among the nominations for special employment centres; the Almas Libres Association as the best project in culture or sport; and the Spanish Commission for Refugee Aid (CEAR), as the best project of a diversity NGO, were recognised in this 9th edition of the Fundación Diversidad Awards.
