Spanish Venues and Sub-Venues for the FIFA World Cup 2030 Bid
-
The RFEF confirms the proposed venues and sub-venues, after two years of work by the Executive Committee, which includes the Spanish Government, through the CSD.
- Spain will contribute 11 venues, 6 in Morocco and 3 in Portugal, complying with FIFA regulations to present a maximum of 20 stadiums.
- Between venues and sub-venues, all of Spain's autonomous communities will be represented at this World Cup.
The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has today announced the stadiums that will be included as candidates to host matches in Spain for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, as well as the sub-venues, following the work carried out over the last two years by the Executive Committee as part of the joint bid with Morocco and Portugal, which includes the Government through the CSD.
In order to finalise the venue choices, all the possibilities were analysed, including the option of expanding to 13 locations in Spain, a decision that must be taken unanimously by the three federations and which was put forward last June by the CSD, after almost two years of joint work. The RFEF worked hard to promote this option, passing it on to its bidding partners, but both the Moroccan Federation and the Portuguese Football Federation considered that FIFA regulations, which establish a maximum of 20 venues, must be respected, which means that Spain will have 11 venues.
In order to determine the venues, a series of scales and objective criteria were applied, in line with FIFA's bidding requirements. In total, 11 stadiums have been established, chosen after taking into account aspects such as the technical projects, operability, financial structure and facilities and infrastructure of the host cities, as well as the fulfilment of the documentary and contractual requirements.
The stadiums that will form part of the Bid Book will be:
- Anoeta (Donostia-San Sebastián)
- Camp Nou (Barcelona)
- Gran Canaria (Las Palmas)
- La Cartuja (Sevilla)
- La Rosaleda (Málaga)
- Metropolitano (Madrid)
- Nueva Romareda (Zaragoza)
- RCDE Stadium (Barcelona, Cornellá-El Prat)
- Riazor (A Coruña)
- San Mamés (Bilbao)
- Santiago Bernabéu (Madrid)
The 45 sub-venues or Team Base Camps (TBC in FIFA terminology) to be proposed in the official dossier have also been determined. These sub-hosts will allow the passion for football and the benefits of the World Cup to be spread throughout Spain.
Specifically, up to 16 autonomous regions will see facilities in their territories proposed as sub-venues in the dossier. Andalusia, Canary Islands, Cantabria, Castilla y León, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalonia, Community of Madrid, Community of Valencia, Extremadura, Galicia, Balearic Islands, La Rioja, Navarre, Basque Country, Principality of Asturias and Region of Murcia have representatives in this list.
The final decision on the use of these sub-venues, which will now have to go through a direct evaluation process by FIFA, will be up to the 2030 World Cup teams themselves.
Between venues and sub-venues, all the autonomous communities of Spain will be represented in this World Cup, which means a positive impact for the greatest number of citizens, whether through the creation of employment, improvement of infrastructures, attraction of tourism, attraction of foreign investment or transformation of the sports industry.
