Sweden will be the opponent for a spot in the final showdown
Spain already had a historic date marked on the calendar: August 15th will see them compete in their first World Cup semifinal; all that was left was to find out the rival in the battle to secure a place in the match where two teams vie for the title of the best team on the planet.
On Friday morning, they discovered the final obstacle before etching their name onto one of the two sides that will shine on the scoreboard of Australia Stadium (Sydney) in the final on August 20th. Our semifinal opponent will be Sweden.
As the Group G champion, after defeating South Africa (1-2), Italy (5-0), and Argentina (0-2) with a tally of nine goals for and only one against, Sweden managed a 2-1 victory over a strong Japan team thanks to goals from Amanda Ilistedt and Filippa Angendal. Additionally, they secured a place in the quarterfinals by defeating the United States in an intense penalty shootout that decided the match after a 0-0 draw in regular time.
The last encounter between Spain and Sweden took place on October 7th, 2022 (REPORT), in a match that ended in a 1-1 draw, with the goals scored by Blomqvist and Marta Cardona.
