The 2-goal hero, Joselu, becomes the oldest outfield player to debut with the National team since Puskas

The forward came on during the second half of the qualifying match against Norway

Two days before his 33rd birthday, José Luis Mato Sanmartín Joselu made history on the pitch at La Rosaleda, becoming the oldest outfield player to pull on the Spanish National Team shirt for the first time.

The forward, scorer of two goals on his debut, entered play during the second half of the match that Spain won this Saturday against Norway with Luis de la Fuente as coach, making Joselu the first player that the coach from La Rioja has given a debut to in an official Spain match.

Only the Spanish-Hungarian Ferenc Puskas surpasses Joselu in age, since Puskas debuted with Spain in 1961 at the age of 34 years, 7 months and 10 days, of course, during most of his international career he wore the Hungarian National Team´s shirt. Similarly, the goalkeeper Fernando Argila also made his debut in 1954, having just turned 33 years old.

With his debut, Joselu overtakes Vicente Engonga (32 years and 11 months), Javi Navarro (32 years and 9 months) and Francisco Lesmes from Ceuta, who debuted for the National Team at 32 years and 2 months as one of the oldest players to pull on Spain´s shirt for the first time.
