The American referee Tori Penso will officiate the match that will determine the world champions
Born 37 years ago in the town of Stuart, Florida, as Mary Victoria Hancock, married to fellow referee Chris Penso and mother of three children, the American Tori Penso has been selected by FIFA to officiate the grand final of the 9th Women's World Cup.
This Sunday's match in Sydney will be the fifth game officiated by the North American referee in this World Cup. She recently officiated the second semifinal of the tournament between Australia and England.
In the final, Tori Penso will be joined by her compatriots Brooke Mayo and Kathryn Nesbitt as assistant referees, and the Japanese referee Yoshimi Yamashita as the fourth official.
With professional experience in marketing and holding a master's degree in business administration from Case Western Reserve University in Ohio, Penso became the first woman in the present century to officiate Major League Soccer matches in the male division in the United States three years ago.
On August 25th of the past year, Tori Penso refereed the semifinal of the Women's U-20 World Cup, which Spain and the Netherlands played in Costa Rica, concluding with a Spanish victory of two goals to one in a team that would eventually become champions, featuring the current senior international player Salma Paralluelo.
