559 days have passed since Gavi was injured against Georgia at the José Zorrilla Stadium in Valladolid, and the whole footballing world watched as he had to leave the pitch in tears on a stretcher.
The tests carried out revealed a terrifying diagnosis: a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right leg, with further damage to the lateral meniscus.

Far from being disheartened by the misfortune, the FC Barcelona midfielder began from that very moment to prepare for his return; first undergoing surgery and then enduring tough rehabilitation sessions with doctors and physiotherapists. A long, hard road that has only served to strengthen the courage of a player who gives his all in every challenge he encounters.

His effort and perseverance have translated into trophies – three this season with Barcelona – and recognition from Spain coach Luis de la Fuente, who has included him in the 26-man squad to contest the UEFA Nations League 2025 final four.

A key figure in the dressing room, he was present at the final of the European Championships won in Germany and in the celebrations that followed.

Gavi, capped 27 times at just 20 years of age, is ready to pull on the Spain shirt once again.
