The town council of Haro, the birthplace of the national coach, has paid tribute to Luis de la Fuente and named the municipal football pitch in his honour. This decision was adopted by the council last December and implemented today in a ceremony attended by the mayor, Laura Rivado and the Spanish national coach himself. Eloy Madorran, general director of sports of La Rioja government, and Jacinto Alonso Marañón, the president of the Riojan Football Federation, were also there.

Luis de la Fuente was born in Haro on 21 June 1961 and he trained as a footballer with Haro Deportivo team before moving on to the youth ranks of Athletic Club. Haro already appointed him Illustrious Jarrero on 4 December 2015, and now the football pitch bears his name. The coach from La Rioja will make his debut with the Spanish national football team on 25 March in Malaga against Norway. He won the European Championships in the Under-19 and Under-21 categories, and the silver medal at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
