The final of the Copa del Rey to be played by Real Madrid CF and CA Osasuna at La Cartuja in Seville will serve to make visible the commitment of the Royal Spanish Football Federation with the protection of the planet through its policies in favor of the environment, turning this final into the "Copa del Rey Sostenible" (Sustainable Copa del Rey).

In this way, the RFEF, together with the Junta de Andalucía and the Plant for the Planet Foundation, will measure the carbon footprint, will implement measures to mitigate the environmental impact of this event, such as the distribution of recycling bags to attendees; the commitment to suppliers of sustainable materials, recycling for a second life of the materials used in the match; or the promotion of public transport to access the match.

Luis Rubiales, president of the RFEF, stressed that "the Copa final is the first match in Spain in which the amount of carbon dioxide generated will be neutralized with the planting of nine thousand trees. It will be a starting point thanks to a Federation that already has the first Sustainable City. There is a lot to do".

The president of the RFEF highlighted that "the Copa final is the first match in Spain in which the amount of carbon dioxide generated will be neutralized".

All this will be reinforced by the compensation of the carbon footprint generated in the last final 2021-2022, an action that will develop the RFEF, with the support of the Junta de Andalucía, hand in hand, on this occasion of the Plant for the Planet Foundation that is carrying out a major reforestation in Andalusia.

In this sense, its Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport has pointed out the importance of reusing resources, explaining that "we are facing an event of great importance in a stadium like La Cartuja in Seville that was destined to be a deteriorated and worthless element and that now we can all enjoy a great event such as the final of the Copa del Rey".

In total, nearly 9,000 trees will be planted to mitigate this footprint, offsetting the 2,225 tons of CO2 that were emitted last year, i.e. 4 trees for every ton of carbon dioxide.

For Jordi Juanós, director of Plan for the Planet, this initiative is "a turning point for many people in Andalusia and the rest of Spain to join the challenge of reforestation".

Among the initiatives aimed at making the Copa Final an even more sustainable event, shuttle buses have been planned, so that fans do not have to use private vehicles to access the vicinity of the stadium.

The Sustainable Copa Final was officially presented this Friday at a ceremony held at the La Cartuja stadium in Seville, attended by the highest authorities of the entities that collaborate in making the final of the Spanish Championship / HM the King's Cup the most sustainable event in the history of the tournament.
