The Spain-Cyprus match on September 12th, in which the national team will fight to earn three points in their Group A qualifying phase for Euro 2024, will take place at the Nuevo Los Cármenes stadium in Granada. This was unanimously approved in the latest meeting of the Venue Assignment Committee of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), which is already working in coordination with the Andalusian Football Federation, the Board  of Andalusia, and the City Council of Granada.

The match against the Cypriot team on September 12th will be held at the Nuevo Los Cármenes and is part of the collaboration agreement between the RFEF and the Board of Andalusia. As a reminder, the two institutions signed a commitment in February 2021 to make the autonomous community a venue for a total of 24 matches of our national teams over four years. The involvement of the Granada City Council in the collaboration has been promoted by its mayor, Marifrán Carazo, in direct coordination with the president of the RFEF, Luis Rubiales, who is "very happy" about the presence of the national team in a land he knows very well.

"For me, returning to Granada is always very special. I feel privileged to have grown up in that province, it is a place of unsurpassed beauty with people who fully enjoy life," stated the president of the RFEF.

Return to Granada

The Spanish national football team will return to Granada two and a half years after their last presence in the city. The Nuevo Los Cármenes stadium was the venue for the match against Greece (1-1) on March 25, 2021, with which Spain began their qualification phase for the World Cup in Qatar. "We have a double sting with Granada. On one hand, the result of that match against Greece was not positive. And, in addition, it took place during the pandemic with the stadium empty. Now we will have one of the best crowds I know and I'm sure they will help us get a victory," said Luis Rubiales.

The mayor Carazo expressed great satisfaction upon learning that Granada will once again host the national team: "It is a great pleasure that a sporting event of this magnitude comes to our city, and this has been made possible through the collaboration and harmony with the Board of Andalusia. The match will be a great celebration for everyone."

Granada takes over from Santander as the host city, after the capital of Santander decided last week not to host the match following UEFA's decision to consider the El Sardinero Sports Fields, where the match was initially planned to take place, as unsuitable.
