The RFEF, LALIGA, the OND and AEMEF agree on a new communication protocol for in-stadium emergencies.
The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), LALIGA, the National Sports Office (OND) and the Spanish Association of Football Team Doctors (AEMEF) have agreed on a new communication protocol for emergencies in professional football stadiums, especially those affecting the public, and their impact on the playing of matches.
Among other measures, which are being implemented from this upcoming 2024-25 season, the figure of the pitch liaison representative, from the Security Forces and Corps, has been created. This person will be pitchside, in permanent contact with the UCO (Organisational Control Unit) and the team of referees, to guarantee the effective flow of information in the event of any emergency.
Similarly, the healthcare systems present in the stadiums have been reinforced, including the figure of doctors in the stands, whose responsibility will be to provide immediate medical attention to spectators. Likewise, a new communication protocol has been established for emergencies in the stadium which, for the first time, also includes the broadcasting of messages over the public address system and giant screens for benefit of awareness of the situation for the spectators present.
This protocol is the result of the joint effort and coordination of the four institutions involved, after several working meetings and the holding of the 1st Congress on Technification and Emergency Management in football stadiums, organised by LALIGA and the Red Cross last April at the RCD Espanyol stadium, with the aim of maintaining a safe environment for fans and players, and to be able to provide an appropriate, rapid and effective response through the various professionals present: Security Forces and Corps, medical staff and the refereeing team.
