The president of the Spanish Olympic Committee, Alejandro Blanco, presented the award to the Royal Spanish Football Federation.
The Spanish Refugee National Football Team social initiative, led by the Royal Spanish Football Federation, has been recognised by the Spanish Olympic Committee at the inaugural Sustainability Awards. The event was organised by the Spanish Olympic Comittee and held at its headquarters during a ceremony attended by various Spanish sports federations.
Over fifteen sports federations submitted their projects for consideration across categories focusing on equality, diversity, social responsibility and sustainability in the world of sport.
The Spanish Refugee National Football Team project, managed by the RFEF’s Department of Equality, Social Responsibility, and Sustainability, brings together refugees who have arrived in Spain from various parts of the world. Through football, these individuals have found a pathway to integration in Spanish society.
The team has participated in the last two editions of the Unity EURO Cup, organised by UEFA and UNHCR, with the 2024 edition held at UEFA’s headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.
The Royal Spanish Football Federation expressed its gratitude for the recognition received from the Spanish Olympic Committee and reaffirmed its commitment to initiatives and projects that enhance lives through football.
