Seventeen years after the last match, Spain will once again play at home at the José Zorrilla stadium in Valladolid. The ground will be packed to the rafters this Sunday to support the national team in its quest to finish top of the group in the qualifiers for the European Championship and thus be seeded for next year's European Championship in Germany.

With a capacity of around 27,000 spectators, the Albivioleta stadium, named after the 19th century poet and playwright José Zorrila, was built for the Spain 1982 World Cup, during which it hosted three matches in the group stage after having hosted the final of the Copa del Rey that same year.

In October 1986, the Under-21s won their first European Championships trophy at the Valladolid coliseum by beating Italy in a penalty shoot-out in a final with the legendary Luis Suárez Miramontes as national coach of the youth category.

As far as the senior national team are concerned, Spain have played three home games in Valladolid to date, with this Sunday's match being the first in which the game was part of the European Championships qualifying:
