Unai Simón assessed his current form: ‘I feel good, much better than at the end of last season. I had an operation after which they removed the pins only 5 months ago, it's a very short time in terms of surgery recovery but a long time in football. Sometimes I feel pain, but nothing that will stop me from competing’.

The Spain international goalkeeper explained the demands of playing again for Spain: ‘I haven't spoken to Luis, at the end of the day the only thing we should talk about is whether he has changed his approach to the game, we have talked a bit about the way we play out from the back. I'm not worried about starting, any of the three of us keepers are capable of doing well. He added: ‘We know the patterns of play we have to follow, I feel very comfortable, this group makes you feel that way. I feel very comfortable playing the ball out and very capable, and my team-mates also help a lot.

On the team's ambition: ‘We are the champions of Europe, of the Nations League, we have to think about retaining the title and everything depends on playing two good games against the Netherlands’.

‘When this competition was set up, it didn't seem to have much importance, until we saw how many high level matches you have to win to win it. The competition is at its peak. You never stop playing against top teams and now the Netherlands are a very big challenge. It may not have a lot of recognition, but this dressing room places a very high value on this competition. It's about trying to be the best in the world,’ argued the Athletic Club and national team player.

‘We want to show the whole of Europe what a strong team we are. We want to win both at home and away’, concluded Unai Simón.
