The journey from the Palacio de la Moncloa to the Palacio de Comunicaciones in Plaza de Cibeles for the 26 footballers who have made history in Germany was like bathing in joyful Spanish celebrations. Thousands and thousands of fans accompanied the champions’ bus along a journey in which a dedicated public got their chance to get up close to the stars who have made the whole country enjoy their football so much. The route was full of red and yellow flags, chants and posters with messages of encouragement, support and gratitude.

At 10 p.m. the entire delegation arrived at the scene of the great final celebrations, where the champions and fans merged, a packed Plaza de Cibeles, the images of which will remain in the heart forever.

The first to appear was the captain, Álvaro Morata, the man who lifted Spain's fourth European Championships trophy into the skies of Berlin. He wanted to thank the fans for the support the squad felt in Germany and from back home in Spain with a message that reached everyone: "We have all grown up watching champions who have taught us how to achieve this. Thanks to all of you". It was Morata who acted as master of ceremonies and called out the rest of the players to songs chosen for the occasion.

Undoubtedly, one of the most touching moments of the night was when María, an 11 year old girl with cancer, accompanied the champions on stage and received an emotional dedication from Morata: "we play football and you teach us every day what it means to really fight in life and what it means to be a superhero".

After the players had come out one by one, including Gavi, it was the turn of Luis de la Fuente, the coach of this history-making team, and he burst into song with his former team-mate and friend Patxi Salinas in celebrations.

Finally, there were live performances by Aitana, Almacor and the soundtrack that has accompanied this Spanish team throughout this European Championships, 'la potra salvaje' by Isabel Aaiún, to which everyone sang and danced in an unforgettable climax to the celebrations.

Music, happiness and a party to celebrate the fact that the country’s favourite team are European champions for the fourth time in our history.
