Where to watch the Spain-Italy match in Gelsenkirchen
If you are travelling to Gelsenkirchen (Germany) to enjoy the Spain-Italy match at the European Championships, and you want to know all the most useful information on the city, the fan zones, transport options for getting to the stadium... you are in the right place.
The Fan Embassy for Spain on the platform FSE (Football Supporters Europe), in collaboration with the RFEF, offers useful guides for all the matches that Spain are set to play at Germany 2024. Just like for the Spain-Croatia match in Berlin, the platform once again is here for the match against the Azzurri at the Schalke 04 stadium. As always, it provides information on the location of the different official Fan Zones, as well as other details aimed at guaranteeing the safety of the fans and the best matchday experience.
Gelsenkirchen is a city divided in two by a river, so it has two urban centres, one in the south and one in the north. The stadium and the general Fan Zone (in the Nordsternpark area) are in the middle of both city centres. In the general Fan Zone in the shape of an amphitheatre has been installed to follow the matches.
Find all the information about the city on the UEFA website.
As there is not much entertainment or large open spaces in the two city centres, the local organisers have designated a meeting area for each fanbase in each one of the two city centres. Specifically, the meeting point for the Spanish fans is the city centre of Gelsenkirchen north (Sankt Urbanus Square). There, from 11.00 am to 8.30 pm, there will be entertainment, refreshments and food stands as well as there being a variety of gastronomic offerings in the surrounding area.
The nearest tram stop for this Fan Meeting Point for Spanish fans is GE Buer Rathaus. From there you can reach the stadium by public transport (approx. 15 minutes) or on foot (approx. 30 minutes).
To ensure that the match takes place in maximum safety and comfort for all attendees, FSE has made available to them the complete list of objects prohibited inside the stadium, including bags or backpacks larger than the size of an A4 sheet or banners and flags larger than 2.0x1.5 metres.
