Women’s National Team honoured at National Police Equality Awards
Montse Tomé and Olga Carmona represented the national team, which was recognised in the ‘Extraordinary Awards’ category for becoming a “symbol of equality in Spain”.
A few days before International Women’s Day (8th March), the CaixaForum Madrid hosted the 3rd National Police Equality Awards gala. National team coach Montse Tomé and international star Olga Carmona attended the event to receive the prized awarded to the senior women’s national football team.
The award, presented in the ‘Extraordinary Awards’ category by the Minister for Equality, Ana Redondo García, was received by Montse and Olga in the form of a Menina statuette. The recognition highlights that “football is a platform through which we convey many values, and this team has been an example of perseverance, teaching society many important lessons”.
“We recognise you for your achievements and for becoming a symbol of equality in Spain.” With these words, the Director General of Police, Francisco Pardo Piqueras, acknowledged the national team’s accomplishments, both in sporting terms and in promoting gender equality.
This award celebrates the team’s remarkable journey and symbolises the dedication and commitment of the women who have made a significant impact in the fight for gender equality and integration within Spanish society.
The first edition of the National Police Equality Awards took place in 2019, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of the incorporation of women into the police force. Since then, the organisation has been committed to ensuring that these awards continue.
