YallaVamos! Lisbon hosts official bid event

Morocco, Portugal and Spain unveil plans and official images for 2030 FIFA World Cup bid

The joint bid of Morocco, Portugal and Spain has today expanded on its plans to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

In a meeting with the media at the headquarters of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) in the Cidade do Futebol in Oeiras (Lisbon), senior representatives of the Bid Committee explained what hosting the FIFA World Cup would mean for their countries and for international football.

Under the mission to build a tournament "for football, for the world and for tomorrow", the bid slogan ‘YallaVamos’ encompasses the three host languages and represents the goal of proactively working to grow football across the globe.

If the bid is successful, the FIFA World Cup will, for the first time in its 100-year history, be held on two continents. In this context, the bid places particular emphasis on building bridges between cultures, providing a welcoming environment for visitors from all backgrounds and leaving a lasting legacy in the areas of sustainability, innovation, investment and social impact.

Throughout the event, the main strengths of the bid were outlined, including the modern football infrastructure, the short travel times and the intense passion with which the host countries live football.

The bid has also announced its first ambassadors, including a footballing legend from each country - Luis Figo for Portugal, Andrés Iniesta for Spain and Nourredine Naybet representing Morocco - as well as leading players from the current men's and women's national teams: Cristiano Ronaldo, Dolores Silva, Álvaro Morata, Irene Paredes, Achraf Hakimi, Yassine Bounou and Ghizlane Chebbak. In addition, Emmanuel Adebayor has also been presented as Ambassador of the candidature for Africa.

Institutional declarations

In accordance with the FIFA Bid Regulations, the next step in the process will be the formal submission of the joint bid in July 2024. The final decision on the location of the 2030 FIFA World Cup will be voted upon at the FIFA Congress towards the end of 2024.

"In a world undergoing rapid and profound transformation, football cannot be left behind. It must maintain its essence, while at the same time adapting to change, evolving and innovating, especially in terms of sustainability. That is why the 2030 World Cup will bring together the rich traditions of the competition, while making innovations and inventions for the future of the sport. This is our challenge," said Fernando Gomes, President of the Portuguese Football Federation, reflecting on the important contribution and legacy that the 2030 World Cup will leave beyond football. "Ultimately, football will become what we shape it into. Therefore, we have an obligation to look after it and give it a meaning that inspires everyone, not just the football world," he concluded.

Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, added: "Today marks an important milestone in the historic bid of our three countries, in line with the vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. By working together every day with our Portuguese and Spanish counterparts, we are demonstrating the value of collaboration and teamwork, and we are convinced that the world of football will benefit from this".

Fernando Sanz, member of the Bid Committee of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, recalled that Spain, which organised a World Cup 42 years ago in 1982, is now working "hand in hand with two neighbouring countries with whom we want to build a World Cup that will be one for the ages. We want to mark the future with a unique World Cup. With modern facilities for players and fans, in a compact tournament, with short travel distances, for a unique experience in our three countries".
