Luis de la Fuente calls up 26 players in pursuit of World Cup qualification
The national coach, Luis de la Fuente, announced on Friday a squad of 26 players who will seek to secure mathematical qualification for the FIFA World Cup 2026, to be held next summer in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
As part of the presentation of the new kit with which La Roja will aim to book their ticket to the World Cup, De la Fuente took a symbolic journey through history, using the shirts worn by the Spanish national team across the last eight tournaments as a narrative thread.
A journey filled with unforgettable moments — of joy, disappointment, and triumph — crowned by Spain’s first World Cup star, achieved in 2010 at Soccer City in Johannesburg.
Spain and adidas began this shared path at the 1994 World Cup in the United States, and 32 years later, the national team aims to return to American soil to rewrite history in pursuit of a second world title.
De la Fuente has announced the list of 26 players who will complete the final stage of Spain’s qualification campaign for next year’s World Cup.
Spain currently tops Group E, with a perfect record of four wins from four matches, scoring 15 goals and conceding none. Turkey sit second on nine points, Georgia are third with three, and Bulgaria close the group yet to register a point.
During this international window, Spain will travel to Tbilisi to face Georgia on Saturday, 15 November at 18:00 (local time) at the Boris Paichadze National Stadium.
They will then return home to play Turkey on Tuesday, 18 November at 20:45 at La Cartuja Stadium in Seville, bringing the qualifying phase to a close.
Luis de la Fuente’s side will secure their place at the World Cup if they defeat Georgia and Turkey fail to take all three points against Bulgaria in the first of the two November fixtures.
Should those results not occur, Spain would still qualify with a win against Turkey in Seville, thereby sealing their ticket to the tournament for a 13th consecutive edition.
