A tribute to Xabier Azkargorta
“Before beginning the press conference, I would like to express my condolences to the family and friends of Xabier Azkargorta. He was an excellent coach — I had him for two years at Sevilla FC — and an exceptional person.”

On the opponent, Georgia
“We expect a difficult match, one that will have nothing to do with the last one we played here. Georgia has top-level players competing in Europe’s best leagues, including Spain. We will need to perform at our highest level to win tomorrow.”

Defensive security
“Our main objective is to qualify for the World Cup, leaving aside the statistics. We know that if we beat Georgia, we will be very close to achieving that goal.”

The unbeaten run
“It is always encouraging to see a country fully behind its national team. In modern football, winning any match is extremely difficult — we are seeing that. The reality is that we want to continue on our path, day by day, training by training, match by match. From time to time, we must pause and recognise how commendable this team’s work has been.”

Support for the National Team
“In Spain we have regained the sense of unity and identity around the National Team. It is the result of everyone’s efforts, and results usually accompany that. We all play a role in strengthening the importance of the National Team in our country.”

About the team
“I hope something similar happens with this team as with the ones from 2008, 2010, and 2012. Those teams became eternal, and I would love for this group to remain in everyone’s memory in the same way. That is the greatest reward a footballer can receive.”
