OFFICIAL | Málaga to host Nations League semifinal against Sweden
The city of Málaga will once again stage one of the marquee events in European women’s football. Spain, the reigning continental champions, meet Sweden in the opening leg of the semifinal. La Selección arrives at this stage after finishing as runners-up at the European Championship in Switzerland and securing top spot in their group ahead of England, Belgium, and Portugal. This will be Sonia Bermúdez’s first match in charge of the national side.
Spain returns to Málaga two years later
The last encounter between Spain and Sweden also took place at La Rosaleda in December 2023. On that occasion, Spain mounted an impressive comeback to defeat the Swedish team 5–3, clinching a place in the semifinals of the inaugural UEFA Women’s Nations League—a tournament they went on to win months later at La Cartuja in Seville. The Málaga stadium, with a capacity of 30,044 spectators, will once again host a clash between the two sides.
The first leg will be played on October 24 in Málaga, with the return leg scheduled for October 28 in Sweden.
The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) is organizing the event with the support of the Andalusian Regional Ministry of Culture and Sport, the Málaga Provincial Council, Málaga City Council, and the Andalusian Football Federation. All institutions involved have expressed their enthusiasm for welcoming the Spanish national team to this decisive fixture.
