The level of interest could hardly have been higher. On the third day of the training camp—and the second official working session—the Spain squad granted media access as part of their preparations for the upcoming FIFA World Cup.

With football’s biggest stage just around the corner, and Spain set to make their debut on 15 June following the tournament’s opening match on 11 June, the national team is already fully focused on the global challenge ahead.

From early morning, over 150 accredited journalists from more than 80 national and international media outlets arrived at the Ciudad del Fútbol to speak with members of the squad.

Ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026 in the United States, Mexico and Canada, Spain—reigning European champions—remain one of the most closely followed teams, carrying the hopes of a nation dreaming of a second World Cup star.

Spain will compete against 47 other nations from all six confederations, including the world’s leading football powers, in their quest for global glory.

Players Facing the Press

Rodri and Mikel Oyarzabal—two of the team’s captains—along with Alejandro Grimaldo, a UEFA Euro 2024 winner, Eric García, who returns to the national team after four years, and debutant Marc Pubill, were the players selected to address the media after Monday’s training session.

Around 150 accredited journalists representing more than 80 media organisations from across the globe were given the opportunity to hear directly from the players, who spoke with enthusiasm about both their individual and collective ambitions ahead of the tournament.

With representation from every continent, reporters gathered insight into the squad’s expectations, mindset and preparations during this key stage of the build-up.

Road to the World Cup

Spain, in camp since Saturday in Las Rozas, continue their preparation for the tournament, which will be staged from 11 June to 19 July across North America.

Before departing for the United States, Luis de la Fuente’s side will play two warm-up matches: the first on Thursday, 4 June, at Estadio de Riazor against Iraq, followed by a second fixture in their U.S. base in Chattanooga against Peru, serving as the final test before their World Cup opener.

The national team’s media day underlined the scale of anticipation surrounding Spain’s World Cup journey, both at home and abroad.
