The countdown to the 2027 Spanish Super Cup, which will be held in Istanbul, is officially underway. The Royal Spanish Football Federation held the official signing ceremony in Türkiye for the agreement between all the institutions that will collaborate on staging the tournament in February 2027.

Joining Royal Spanish Football Federation president Rafael Louzán at the signing ceremony were Osman Aşkın Bak, Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Türkiye; Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, Minister of Culture and Tourism; H. E. Turki Alalshikh, Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority (GEA) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; Necmeddin Bilal Erdoğan, President of the World Ethnosport Confederation; and İbrahim Ethem Hacıosmanoğlu, President of the Turkish Football Federation.

The event took place on Thursday at the Hasan Doğan National Teams Facilities of the Turkish Football Federation.

On behalf of Spanish football, Rafael Louzán thanked “the Turkish Football Federation and its president for the wonderful welcome given to Spanish football in this incredible country and city of Istanbul. I would also like to thank all the authorities joining us on this very special day. The support of the institutions demonstrates the importance of the Super Cup coming to Istanbul. Thank you to Istanbul’s clubs, who are joining us and will be our companions on this journey, as well as to SELA and all the authorities and the Government of Saudi Arabia. We are very pleased with the work we have done together. We are bringing together two countries that experience football in an extraordinary way. We share a passion for football.”

“Spain and Türkiye are enjoying an extraordinary moment in their relations as countries,” Louzán continued. “We have come to strengthen those ties further and ensure that agreements between the two countries continue.”

“Our competition continues to grow and is taking the excellence of Spanish football to new audiences. It is a tournament that reaches more than 100 million viewers around the world. Our football is among the most respected in the world today. Spain are world champions at national-team level in both the men’s and women’s game. We have outstanding players and some of the most renowned clubs in world football. In just a few months, Turkish fans will be able to enjoy the magic of the Spanish Super Cup, an intense and exciting competition that has given us some of the finest nights in our football in recent years in Jeddah and Riyadh.

There will be three major matches at three major stadiums. Istanbul has hosted UEFA Champions League and Europa League finals in recent years and is a city equipped to stage the biggest international events. It has a fanbase that experiences football in a very special way.

“Istanbul will embrace the Super Cup and this tournament will contribute to the city’s international profile, in a place that occupies a privileged position on the world football map. We hope this will not be the only occasion. We want it to be the beginning of a special relationship between Spanish and Turkish football. That is the virtue of football: it creates bonds that go beyond 90 minutes. In February 2027, the Spanish Super Cup will have a new home, Istanbul, and we know that the Turkish fans will make it their own. We are sure of that. May it be another great success for the Spanish Super Cup.

Spain is a symbol of the finest players in football, as world champions, and Turkish fans will therefore enjoy this competition. I hope to welcome fans from Spain. This Super Cup comes after great cooperation with Spain and Saudi Arabia, which has produced further examples across the world of sport. It is a very happy day for everyone: Spanish football coming to Türkiye and Istanbul, and creating bonds of cooperation, solidarity and friendship between our peoples. Istanbul is the ideal city to host a tournament such as the Super Cup. I am proud of my city and proud to live here, and to see it play host to events like this. See you in February for the Spanish Super Cup.”

On behalf of the General Entertainment Authority (GEA) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, its chairman, H. E. Turki Alalshikh, said: “I am happy to be in Istanbul, a sister city.
