RFEF President Wishes Luck to Copa de la Reina Finalists
“We are going to enjoy a great match for this wonderful trophy in a magnificent stadium like Gran Canaria,” predicted Rafael Louzán as he addressed representatives of FC Barcelona and Club Atlético de Madrid during the official dinner ahead of the match that will decide the tournament champions.
The impressive Estadio de Gran Canaria — a candidate venue for the 2030 World Cup — will host the final of the 44th edition of the Women’s Spanish Championship–Copa de SM la Reina this Saturday at 21:00 Spanish mainland time between Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid.
Just hours before kick-off, the Real Club Marítimo de Gran Canaria hosted the official pre-match dinner, attended by numerous civil and sporting authorities as well as representatives of the finalist clubs.
In his welcome speech, RFEF president Rafael Louzán said he was confident that the final “will provide a great spectacle that will not disappoint any fan when a match begins whose winner will lift this wonderful trophy in a magnificent stadium such as Gran Canaria.”
The head of Spanish football’s governing body also wished the finalists good luck, while noting that Barcelona will soon contest another major final — the UEFA Women’s Champions League final against Olympique Lyonnais Féminin — featuring two Spanish coaches on the touchline.
Ángel Riudalbas, head of women’s football at Barcelona, highlighted the club’s commitment to youth development as one of its key strengths. Meanwhile, Lola Romero stressed the excitement and humility with which Atlético are approaching Saturday’s final.
During the official dinner, the RFEF president presented replica trophies to representatives of both finalist clubs, as well as the Horizonte match ball to Aridany Romero, Hipólito Suárez and Carolina Darias.
Finally, Louzán congratulated the Federación Interinsular de Fútbol de Las Palmas on its centenary and thanked its president, José Juan Arencibia, for the work and commitment that made it possible for Gran Canaria to host the Copa de la Reina final — turning the island into the centre of Spanish women’s football celebrations this Saturday.
