The President of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) held a series of official meetings in Valladolid on Tuesday morning, including an audience with the city’s mayor, an encounter with representatives of Castile and León’s non-professional clubs, and a visit to the Spanish National Team Fan Zone in Valladolid’s Plaza Mayor.

The city’s magnificent modernist town hall served as the venue for the meeting between RFEF President Rafael Louzánand Jesús Julio Carnero, Mayor of Valladolid. Louzán was received by the mayor at the main entrance of the building, located in the emblematic Plaza Mayor, on what was a festive football day for the city ahead of Spain’s World Cup qualifying match against Bulgaria at the José Zorrilla Stadium.

During the meeting, Mayor Carnero presented Louzán with a commemorative edition of El Hereje (The Heretic) by Miguel Delibes — one of Valladolid’s most iconic literary works, chronicling the life of Cipriano Salcedo in the 16th century.

In return, Louzán gifted the mayor a personalized Spanish National Team jersey, as Valladolid hosts a national team match for the fifth time in its history.

Following the exchange, both leaders toured the town hall facilities, accompanied by the presidents of Spain’s regional football federations, and took part in a meeting with representatives of non-professional clubs from across Castile and León.

One of the morning’s most special moments came with a visit to the Fan Zone in Plaza Mayor, where supporters of all ages gathered to enjoy the pre-match atmosphere ahead of the Spain–Bulgaria clash.

Speaking to the media, Rafael Louzán expressed his gratitude:

“I want to thank Valladolid for welcoming us, and the mayor in particular, for his personal commitment and the support of the city council in making our presence here possible.”

Mayor Carnero, for his part, added:

“From the City Council of Valladolid, we are delighted to welcome the Spanish National Team back two years after their last visit. It is always an honor for this city to host La Roja, as we are passionate about all sporting events. We thank the RFEF for thinking of Valladolid.”

The RFEF President, accompanied by the heads of Spain’s regional federations, concluded the day’s activities with a visit to Pesquera de Duero, before heading to the José Zorrilla Stadium, where Spain aims to take another major step toward qualifying for the next FIFA World Cup.
