Rafael Louzán: “Spanish football is once again a united team”

The President of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has reviewed his first year in office before the General Assembly, announcing the rollout of new measures aimed at modernising the institution and strengthening its social engagement. “It has been an intense period of work, institutional dialogue, stability, trust and sporting success.”

Just hours before the first anniversary of his democratic election as RFEF President, Rafael Louzán on Monday presented an assessment of the Federation’s activity and achievements over the past year, while also outlining the next steps to be implemented.

“On this very day,” the RFEF President began, “I addressed you to express my commitment to opening the doors of the Ciudad del Fútbol to everyone. I asked for trust, unity, hard work and a degree of leeway to recover lost time. I believe that during this period we have laid the foundations to improve our game. Spanish football is once again a united team, characterised by loyalty, responsibility and collective effort for the good of our sport. We are one.”

Reviewing the concrete measures implemented throughout 2025, Louzán highlighted first and foremost the restoration of dialogue and institutional loyalty, together with the renewed influence gained within international sporting bodies.

This has been accompanied by sustained growth in beach soccer and, above all, an exceptional competitive moment for the national teams. Since 18 September, Spain’s men’s and women’s sides have jointly held the number one position in the FIFA world rankings, closing the year with the UEFA Women’s Nations League title, lifted this December in Madrid.

“We came to do things, not merely to be here,” Louzán summarised, before detailing the new initiatives scheduled for the opening weeks of 2026. Social commitment will play a central role, as next year’s budget will, for the first time, include a dedicated allocation for inclusive football, alongside an environmental plan and support programmes for vulnerable groups.

Among the key elements of the RFEF’s modernisation plan are the refurbishment of the Ciudad del Fútbol facilities; the hosting in Zaragoza of a major Spanish Football Congress focused on development competitions; the launch of a new streaming and scouting service through an OTT audiovisual platform for Spanish football; the renewal of the Federation’s brand identity; and the development of a real-time score and match-report system, in close collaboration with the refereeing community during fixtures.

Looking ahead, the RFEF President reiterated his gratitude to all stakeholders across Spanish football and reaffirmed his commitment to continue working for and on behalf of “a sport that makes an entire country vibrate in its streets, squares and homes—one that transforms things and makes them better,” he concluded, before offering his traditional Christmas greetings to the members of the Assembly.
