Rafael Louzán: “The 2030 World Cup will effectively begin in September”
The president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, Rafael Louzán, spoke alongside Javier Tebas at The Forum, an event focused on leadership and innovation in Madrid, discussing the global impact of Spanish football.
The session, introduced by Madrid’s mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida, brought together key figures from sport and business, including national team coach Sonia Bermúdez.
Louzán emphasized improved cooperation between the RFEF and LaLiga, stating that both institutions now “sit at the same table” and represent Spain’s global football brand. He highlighted increased stability, better communication, and growing trust, which he says have attracted major companies to Spanish football.
Tebas supported this view, pointing to strong international growth as well as domestic success, including record stadium attendances and TV audiences—figures he claims surpass other major European leagues.
Looking ahead, Louzán described the 2030 FIFA World Cup as Spain’s “big national challenge” and a major opportunity for global projection. He explained that while the tournament itself is years away, the real organizational work will begin in September, once the next World Cup cycle concludes.
He also expressed hope that cities like Valencia and Vigo will be confirmed as host venues and called on the Spanish government and public institutions to fulfill commitments on infrastructure upgrades. The overall investment for the tournament is expected to be around €2.5 billion.
The event also included global football leaders such as Aleksander Čeferin, whom Louzán was scheduled to meet later in the day.
