Rafael Louzán experiences Spain's qualification alongside the FIFA President
Goals from Pedro Porro and a Mikel Oyarzabal brace at Los Angeles Stadium secured Spain's place in the FIFA World Cup Round of 16 on Thursday.
Amid a vibrant atmosphere and huge anticipation at the Los Angeles venue, Spain claimed a commanding victory over Austria, booking their place in the knockout stage of this thrilling FIFA World Cup.
Joining the large contingent of Spain supporters cheering on the national team from the stands, RFEF President Rafael Louzán attended the match to back Luis de la Fuente's side in their first knockout challenge of the tournament.
Before kick-off, Louzán met with FIFA President Gianni Infantino, presenting him with a personalised Spain goalkeeper jersey bearing the number 26, symbolising the year of the tournament in which Spain hopes to add a second World Cup star above its crest.
The RFEF President also exchanged commemorative gifts with his counterpart from the Austrian Football Association, Josef Pröll, and shared the pre-match atmosphere with Spanish football legends including Carles Puyol, David Villa, Fernando Hierro, and Míchel Salgado, all of whom attended to support the national team on such an important occasion.
The match at Los Angeles Stadium was also attended by prominent figures from the world of culture, including actors Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz, as well as Catalan singer Rosalía, who is currently performing in California as part of her world tour.
After previously meeting at the 1978 FIFA World Cup in Argentina, Spain and Austria faced each other in the finals of the competition for only the second time. This time, the victory belonged to Spain, who sealed their place in the Round of 16, where they will face the winner of the Portugal–Croatia tie next Monday in Dallas.
