Second Round of the Copa del Rey MAPFRE Drawn

The 56 clubs still in contention in the Copa del Rey MAPFRE learned on Tuesday, November 11, who their opponents will be in the second round, which will be played as a single-leg tie on Tuesday, December 2, Wednesday, December 3, and Thursday, December 4.

With Rafael Louzán, president of the RFEF, acting as host, the Luis Aragonés Hall at the Ciudad del Fútbol served as the setting for a draw featuring teams from all five national tiers of Spanish football, resulting in 28 matchups. The balls were drawn by David Rabadán (Ourense CF), Unai Olaizola (Club Portugalete), David García (CD Quintanar del Rey), Samu Mayo (CD Guadalajara), Miguel Pérez “Michu” (Burgos CF), and Carlos Espí (UD Levante), who served as the “lucky hands.”

As in the previous round, proximity criteria determined the pairings, with Spain divided into two groups: one corresponding to the northern half of the country (Group 1) and the other to the southern half (Group 2).

Regarding home advantage, it was determined based on the division in which each club competes during the regular season, with the lower-tier team hosting. For the matches CD Mirandés vs. Real Sporting de Gijón, CyD Leonesa vs. FC Andorra, and Real Zaragoza vs. Burgos CF—all Segunda Division games—the stadium was determined according to the order in which the balls were drawn.

The four qualifiers from the Spanish Super Cup—FC Barcelona, Real Madrid CF, Club Atlético de Madrid, and Athletic Club—will enter the competition in the following round.
