Spain concluded its FIFA World Cup 2026 group-stage campaign with a 1–0 victory over Uruguay, securing qualification for the Round of 32 as Group H winners with seven points.

Álex Baena's decisive goal—earning him the FIFA Player of the Match award—kept the national team at the top of the standings, ahead of Cape Verde, who finished second, followed by Saudi Arabia and Uruguay.

Luis de la Fuente's side completed the group stage unbeaten and without conceding a single goal, recording two victories and one draw. Spain has also emerged as one of the tournament's most defensively resilient teams, with only Mexico, Argentina and Ghana likewise maintaining clean sheets, although the latter two had yet to play their third group-stage fixture.

The achievement also marks the 11th time in FIFA World Cup history that Spain has progressed from the group stage as group winners, and the seventh occasion on which La Roja has done so without suffering defeat.

Spain will now face the runners-up from Group J in the Round of 32 on 2 July in Los Angeles, with either Austria or Algeria set to become the team's next opponents.
