Spain and Argentina to Battle for the 2026 Finalissima in Qatar
UEFA and CONMEBOL have officially confirmed the venue and date for the 2026 Finalissima, which will see Spain face Argentina, the reigning champions of Europe and South America respectively. The match will be played at Lusail Stadium in Doha (Qatar) on March 27, with kickoff at 7:00 PM CET.
It will be Spain’s first appearance in this competition, which has been held on three previous occasions. The first two editions, played in 1985 and 1993 under the name Copa Artemio Franchi, were won by France and Argentina. The tournament was revived in 2022, when Argentina defeated Italy at Wembley Stadium in London, giving the Albiceleste two of the three titles contested so far.
Spain head into the showdown with Lionel Scaloni’s side not only as the reigning European champions, but also as the current No. 1 team in the FIFA rankings, ahead of Argentina themselves. The last official meeting between the two teams dates back to March 2018, when Spain claimed a memorable 6–1 victory in a friendly match in Madrid.
The two nations have faced each other 14 times, with a perfectly balanced record: six wins each and two draws.
