Spain will face Iraq at the Riazor Stadium on 4 June.
Before departing for the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada, the national team will play one last fixture in Spain as a send-off in front of their supporters. Riazor, in A Coruña, will stage the match, with Iraq—also qualified for the global tournament—providing the opposition.
Rafael Louzán, president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, and Adnan Dirjal, president of the Iraqi FA, finalised arrangements during the 76th FIFA Congress in Vancouver.
Managed by Luis de la Fuente, Spain will travel to Galicia to take on the Iraqi national team, members of the Asian Football Confederation, on Thursday 4 June in an international friendly. The two sides have met only once before: at the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup, when Spain claimed a 1–0 win courtesy of a goal from David Villa.
This will be the seventh time Spain have played in A Coruña, where they last appeared in 2022—also in a pre-World Cup friendly—defeating Iceland national football team 5–0 in front of a packed crowd.
The match will serve as the penultimate test before Spain’s World Cup opener against Cape Verde national football teamon 15 June at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Preparation will conclude in Puebla, where Spain face Peru national football team on Monday 8 June.
