Spain’s position at the top of the FIFA ranking for the world’s best national teams is no coincidence, and the achievements continue to speak for themselves. After being crowned champions of the UEFA Women’s Nations League, Spain’s internationals keep receiving accolades that place them at the very summit of women’s football.

Over the course of this week, the IFFHS (International Federation of Football History & Statistics) has highlighted the best players worldwide, crowning Aitana Bonmatí in first place in a ranking where her closest challengers are Mariona Caldentey (2nd), Alexia Putellas (3rd), Patri Guijarro (4th) and Vicky López (5th).

Vicky López has also been named the world’s best player in her category, finishing almost 70 points ahead of second-placed Linda Caicedo. The ideal XI for this category also features Aicha Camara, a Spain U-19 international, at right-back.

Spanish women’s football continues to shine on the global stage, and proof of this is the presence of five senior internationals in the IFFHS ideal XI: Irene Paredes, Alexia Putellas, Patri Guijarro, Aitana Bonmatí and Mariona Caldentey—rounding off a golden end to 2025 for the national team.
