The President of the RFEF Receives His Majesty the King Upon Arrival at Guadalajara Stadium
Spain, driven by a decisive goal from Álex Baena, secured first place in its group at the FIFA World Cup.
With a full stadium and thousands of supporters filling the streets of Guadalajara, the Spanish national team enjoyed the presence and support of His Majesty King Felipe VI during the decisive Group H encounter against Uruguay. The match, played in Mexico and concluding in the early hours of Saturday in Spain, ended in a 1–0 victory for Spain, ensuring top position in the group.
The President of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Rafael Louzán, welcomed the King upon his arrival at the stadium, accompanied by the Governor of Jalisco, Pablo Lemus; the President of CONCACAF and FIFA Vice-President, Victor Montagliani; and the President of Club Deportivo Guadalajara, Amaury Vergara.
Inside the stadium, prominent historical figures of Spanish football, including Iker Casillas, Emilio Butragueño, Fernando Hierro, Carles Puyol, Míchel Salgado, and David Silva, were able to exchange impressions with His Majesty in the lead-up to the match.
A significant institutional delegation was also present, including Spain’s Minister of Education, Vocational Training and Sports, Milagros Tolón; the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares; the Mayor of Guadalajara, Verónica Delgadillo; and the Governor of the Mexican state of Nuevo León, Samuel Alejandro García, among others.
The match began with an emotional minute of silence in memory of the victims of the earthquakes in Venezuela. During half-time, the President of the RFEF exchanged gifts with his Uruguayan counterpart, Ignacio Alonso, as well as with CONCACAF President Victor Montagliani.
His Majesty King Felipe VI’s strong and personal support for the Spanish national team throughout the World Cup has been one of the tournament’s most notable institutional moments. Prior to the competition, the King himself announced Spain’s official squad list in a globally broadcast event that has since generated more than 5.6 billion impressions worldwide.
