The two most decorated nations in their respective continental competitions have further strengthened ties following the signing of this memorandum of understanding between the RFEF and the JFA.

Vancouver, which will host the 76th FIFA Congress, provided the setting for the agreement signed by Louzán and Miyamoto, presidents of the two national associations.

Under the terms of the four-year agreement, both federations will collaborate through the exchange of expertise and personnel across key areas, including women’s football, futsal, beach soccer, youth development, refereeing, medical services and innovation in sport.

The agreement will also encourage the organisation of international fixtures between Spain and Japan across various disciplines and age groups. This includes the senior women’s national team—current world champions—as well as the national futsal sides, which, under Clàudia Pons and Jesús Velasco, currently hold European titles in both the men’s and women’s categories.

“A significant agreement that will benefit Spanish football as a whole,” said RFEF President Rafael Louzán, who is leading Spain’s delegation at the Vancouver Congress. The event, hosted in a future World Cup venue, is expected to see FIFA approve key measures relating to good governance, support for member associations, and the development of women’s football, including proposals to allow Afghan women to represent their country in official competitions.
