Today was an important date for all thirty-two clubs, who gathered at the headquarters of Spanish football from 1:00 p.m. onwards. The Copa del Rey MAPFRE draw matched the 28 teams that advanced from the second round with the four Spanish Super Cup participants, who enter the competition at this stage.

The draw took place in the Luis Aragonés Auditorium at the Ciudad del Fútbol, featuring five guest draw assistants and six pots: Supercopa teams (4), First Division (13), Second Division (9), Primera Federación Versus e-Learning (4), Segunda Federación (1), and Copa Federación (1).

RFEF President Rafael Louzán attended the event and extended his best wishes to all participating clubs.

Among those drawing the balls were Bernd Schuster — six-time Copa del Rey champion with FC Barcelona (1980/81, 1982/83, 1987/88), Real Madrid (1988/89), and Atlético de Madrid (1990/91, 1991/92) — along with Jerin Ramos (Ourense CF, Copa Federación champions), Jaume Tovar (CD Atlético Baleares, Segunda Federación), Álvaro López (CF Talavera, Primera Federación Versus e-Learning), and José Verdú “Toché,” sporting director of Albacete Balompié.

The sixteen one-legged ties will be played next week, on December 16th, 17th and 18th, with lower-division sides hosting. In the case of Deportivo Alavés vs Sevilla FC — both top-flight sides — home advantage was assigned based on the order in which their balls were drawn.
