The Spain head coach faced the media in the press room at Poljud Stadium in Split, Croatia, after Spain came from behind to defeat Croatia and claim all three points on the fourth and final matchday of this UEFA Nations League international window.

Match analysis: “I am proud for so many reasons. I could spend the whole press conference thanking them for everything they do. We knew this was going to be a difficult match. We never gave up; we kept looking to improve. We suffered a lot because they pushed us hard and it became a very tough game. We were able to wear the opposition down and create chances.”

Unai Simón: “We always say that matches are won in the penalty areas, and we are a very complete team that is difficult to beat. Unai Simón is always there when we need him.”

Mikel Merino: “It is an honour and a privilege to coach a footballer of his talent. I think that when we were heading to the World Cup, I even said that if he was injured, I would carry him in my arms, and I don't think I was exaggerating. He does not get the recognition his talent deserves. In other countries, he would be valued much more.”

The team: “These players are insatiable. They are never satisfied and do everything they can to win. This team has shown that it always wants to win every match; it reflects the attitude of some wonderful footballers. We are not satisfied with being world champions. Our objective is to keep growing as a team.”
