Spain star Aitana Bonmatí, named POTM in the semi-final, attended the press conference to take questions from the assembled journalists. First, she talked through the goal she scored that sealed Spain’s place in the final. “We had studied the keeper and we knew that in some situations she can leave the near post open, so I struck it with everything I had because I didn’t want the match to go to penalties,” she explained.

The media also asked her about the performance of goalkeeper Cata Coll, who, like Aitana, missed the start of the Euros due to illness. “Cata had a great game, making some stops that really saved us,” she noted. She also added how lucky the team are to have been able to enjoy this match.

“Today, I feel like we’ve made history again by reaching a final of the Euros and by beating Germany, which we had never done before,” she stressed. She also said it was a source of pride to belong to this generation of footballers: “In the future, we’re going to be grateful to have been part of this piece of history.”

Describing her celebrations, she said, “I started running off like crazy, I didn’t know where I was going, and I saw the whole bench on their feet and I ran to them. Honestly, there’s no better way to celebrate it than with all of them”. “This goal belongs to all of us, and there’s nothing better than sharing it with a group that is so beautiful and united,” she concluded. “Scoring in these matches is very special, and if I can keep making history with this team, even better.”
