All official RFEF competitions and referees set to wear the ‘armband of hope’ to raise awareness of the fight against cancer.
Thanks to the collaboration agreement signed between the Royal Spanish Football Federation and the Spanish Association Against Cancer, and on the occasion of World Cancer Day, all players taking part in official RFEF competitions are set to wear a green armband of hope on the 1st and 2nd of February.
The Royal Spanish Football Federation and the Spanish Association Against Cancer have signed a collaboration agreement by which they join forces in the fight against cancer and will work together in the publicising and support of the ‘Todos Contra el Cáncer’ (All against Cancer) campaign. As a result of this agreement, for all official matches 1st and 2nd February, all participating clubs will join in the initiative by wearing green ribbons symbolising hope in the fight against the disease.
All the players, referees and referees of the teams in the First, Second and Third RFEF divisions in men's football; First Iberdrola Federation and Second Federation in women's football as well as First Division and Second Division in futsal, as well as the teams participating in the Spanish Women's Futsal Super Cup, will be in charge of displaying this message of unity to fight against the disease with the Armband for Hope’ initiative.
The objective of the Spanish Association Against Cancer with the campaign ‘All Against Cancer’ is to improve the survival and quality of life of people living with this disease. The challenge is to achieve a 70% survival rate by 2030 and, to achieve this, the help and mobilisation of society as a whole is of vital importance.
It is with this goal in mind, that with this agreement, the RFEF and Spanish football continue the awareness-raising work that only the force of football offers in order to support social causes that improve the lives of people and offer support to those who, due to different circumstances, have a range of difficulties.
